Throughout the year, we collect damaged holy books, used papers and irreparably damaged Judaica from individuals, various community groups and organizations for our book burial. These items are stored throughout the year in the community Genizah (depository) prior to the book burial.

JCAM believes it is our responsibility to be the bridge between our cemetery properties and the community. Part of the way we bridge this gap is by making sure that sacred items that are at the end of their useable lives, are properly and respectfully discarded.

The following items will NOT be accepted at the Book Burial:

  • Anything containing metal or plastic (i.e. mezuzah casings, menorahs, candlesticks, plastic bags, plastic bindings, etc.)
  • No school papers, religious school books, invitations, photographs, drawings, newspapers.
  • Books entirely in English, Russian, or any other language.
  • Only prayer books such as, Machzorim, Siddurim, Talmuds, Haggadot, Benchers, Scrolls or Hebrew bibles containing the Hebrew name of G-d will be accepted. The Book Burial will be held at King Solomon Cemetery, located at 2659 Centre Street, West Roxbury.
